Must see 'Roller Boogie' (1979) first
Just watched the movie 'Roller Town' for the first time last night and can't wait to watch it again. I had never heard of the Canadian comedy troupe, Picnicface, but they are responsible for this gem. The story line takes most of it's cues from the 1979 movie 'Roller Boogie'. In some twisted way, you could say Roller Town is a remake of Roller Boogie! Do yourself a favor and watch the original a few times first. Many of the jokes in Roller Town will be much funnier.
If you appreciate SCTV or 'kids in the hall', you can handle Roller Town. This movie isn't for everybody and it did catch me off guard with some brief gore and sexual explicitness of sorts. But as soon as you decide to roll with this movie and understand that many of the jokes are poking fun at Roller Boogie (1979), you may soon find yourself in stitches.
Awful.
Realy awful. Not even remotely entertaining. This looked like a cute movie. It was put together by a comedy troupe, so I expected some laughs. And it combined two of my favorite things - roller skating and video games. Despite the potential this movie was pathetic.
If you like out there and corny...
This is your movie! The off color humor and hard to follow scripts make you want to give up on this movie. Follow it through to the end, if you can. Not a great ending but you will always wonder what happened if you don't finish it. You can do it!
