DEGRADED but still a MUST HAVE
The first shorts of the 7 on this DVD is enough reason for any cinephile, cinema buff, social historian, or Black American to own this DVD.
HOWEVER, presumably from misguided marketing towards increased sales, all of the 7 films have an aspect ration of 1:85!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Movies are first and primarily a visual medium. How they could imagine this would appeal to those interested in these EARLY shorts I can not fathom.
The movies were RESTORED VERY WELL, and because of this and of the contents on this DVD, (primarily the first short), I still give this DVD 3 stars.
I would say if you are very interested with the first 1 reeler, which is the first known ALL Black cast film, do not let the major top and bottom image loss from cropping
deter you from buying this DVD.
