Hail the Conquering Hero [HD]

A Slice of Small Town WWII USA
A beautiful story of a man who wants to do the right thing but is “Helped” by some Marine “Friends” he meets on the way home and once home it snowballs with the whole town involved until it all comes crashing down when the truth is finally revealed. This is a 1944 movie and WWII was still going on so it has a lot of war related awareness in there and about small town America and traditional family values. Plus there is a nice love interest that will not disappoint you at the ending. This review goes out to both the DVD and the free viewing Amazon provided with this purchase.

Fun movie but not a classic
I enjoyed this movie very much. I would not go as far as to call it a classic but the story was typical of Hollywood for the period. The Marines and their good nature desire to help a "fellow Marine" and all the hoop-la that follows is amusing. Eddie Brackens character got to be annoying at times and I blame that on the writters not knowing how to work some of the story line. My 10 year old got a kick out of it and enjoyed the movie very much. She thought the plot was funny and enjoyed the Marines and their quirks. This amazed me because she has not reference point for the 2nd World War or the Marines. I would say it's a good addition to any collection and a nice family film that makes you laugh at times.

Preston Sturges' movies are fun, fast and imaginative. I liked Hail the Conquering Hero, but it is not my favorite of his movie
I liked Hail the Conquering Hero, but it is not my favorite Preston Sturges movie. It is a pretty good political satire, but again, not Sturges' best work. I prefer The Miracle of Morgan's Creek and Sullivan's Travels. I would highly recommend them!
